At Desk Exercises – 5 Easy to do at Desk Yoga Exercises

During the day we are constantly experiencing a ton of different stressors that leave us physically,mentally and emotionally exhausted.

Working all day at a desk is no easy task. 

Staying productive all day at the desk is a really hard task to do. There are so many distractions nowadays that it is tough to stay concentrated for long periods of time.

When we get stressed out we tend to turn to things that will give us instant gratification such as; eating junk food, watching t.v., browsing facebook etc. When really we should be turning to things that will better us and help us perform better!

I came across yoga about 3 years ago and I have been practicing ever since!

So What are the Benefits of Yoga?

I have created a quick and easy 5 minute yoga routine that you can do at the comfort of your desk!

5 Easy to do at Desk Yoga Exercises

  1. High Alter Pose

How to do it?

  • Inhale as you extend long through your spine
  • Raise your arms up to the sky and invert your hands so that your palms are facing the sky
  • Exhale and lean to your left for 6 to 8 breaths
  • Lean to the opposite side and hold for 6 to 8 breaths

2. Ankle to Knee

How to do it?

  • Inhale and extend long through the spine
  • Sit up straight with a flat back
  • Engage your core
  • Cross your left ankle over your right knee
  • Let the left knee sink down into the stretch
  • Hold this pose for 6 to 8 breaths
  • To get a m0re intense stretch hinge forward at the hips
  • Switch to the other side and hold for 6 to 8 breaths

3. Scale Pose

How to do it?

  • Sit at the edge of your chair
  • Press your hands down on either side of the chair and raise your butt/legs off the chair
  • Hips/knees should be at a 90 degree angle
  • Engage your abdominal muscles
  • Hold for 3 to 5 breaths and repeat

4. Spinal Twist

How to do it?

  • MAKE SURE that you extend long throughout the spine
  • Inhale as you extend
  • Exhale as you twist to the left  while placing your hand on the top of the chair
  • Gaze over your left shoulder
  • Hold pose for 6 to 8 breaths
  • Repeat on the other side

5. Seated Neck Stretch

How to do it?

  • Either sit on the ground or on a chair
  • Make sure you extend long through the spine
  • Sit up straight with flat back
  • Take your left arm and place your hand on the right side of your head
  • Extend your right arm long beside you
  • Inhale as you lengthen
  • Exhale and pull your head down towards your left shoulder
  • Hold for 6 to 8 breaths
  • Repeat on the opposite side

Must Do’s

  1. Remember when you inhale, you want to extend through the spine (get longer)
  2. As you exhale you want to sink deeper into the pose or stretch
